Many whales passing through this week. They're fun to watch for, and lots of people do it around here. You can see them by the spray of water out of their blow holes when they come up for a breath. It's not as easy to see in my photos, but it's very easy to spot in person. The first photo has two whales spouting at the same time; they look like little puffs of smoke. People gather at the overlooks with their cameras and binoculars to catch a glimpse of the migrating giants.

How cool!! Do you know what kind of whales they are? That one camera lens is HUGE - bet he'll get some awesome shots.

Hey! Here I am, one of your faithful commentors (comenters? comentators?) and I disappear just as Rick makes his plea! Sorry -- my blog time has been scarce lately. Witness the lack of new entries on my own blog! I'll get a live link up on the computer I'm using now, so that I remember to check yours more often.
Gorgeous pictures lately, Laura. (As always) I love it!

Hi Laura and Rick,
I thought I'd check in on your blog today. I've never left a comment before so I hope I get this right. I love looking at the pictures you take. It looks like it is beautiful out there. How is the weather? We had a big snow storm last week along with two snow days (Portland had three but your mom probably told you.). Have a great week and keep the pictures coming. How about one of a whale jumping??

Beautiful pictures! Are you taking requests? If you are, I'd like to see some pictures of you guys. Maybe around your house or something so that I can imagine where you are more. Mom and Dad came over tonight for the Super Bowl and we made Nachos. It made me miss you very much! I was homesick for an evening of nachos and Texas Hold 'em with my sister... and Rick too of course!
Love you!
Mandy
They are gray whales. Just the other day though, a sperm whale washed ashore on one of our beaches. That is very uncommon for around here. I might be able to get a picture up of that whale. I'll see what I can do about the photo requests :)
